Caroleena, the galga who started it all
In 2014, CGRC Founder Sandra Deakin traveled to Spain for the first time to visit the 112 Carlota Galgos finca. There, she met a senior galga named Caroleena who would change her life forever. Sandra took one look into her gentle eyes and knew she had to do something to help. She and Charlotte stayed up until the early hours hatching a plan… Carlota Galgos Rescue Canada was born!
Caroleena made the journey home with Sandra to Moncton, NB where she became our official “Ambassadog”, charming everyone she met and introducing many Canadians to the plight of the galgo. What started as a one-woman rescue operation soon grew to include members and adopted galgos across Canada.
Already at least ten years old when rescued by Charlotte, Caroleena enjoyed five happy years with Sandra before crossing the rainbow bridge in 2019. This sweet soul planted an idea that has changed the lives of the many galgos who have journeyed to Canada in her footsteps.
